ON THE YORKE PENINSULA

 

AS A PATIENT

  • When making your appointment tell the receptionist if you think you need a longer consultation than usual  (10–15 minutes)

  • Be on time for your appointment

  • Let the office know if you are running late or want to cancel

  • Sometimes the Doctors are unavoidably detained.  To alleviate a longer than necessary waiting period, phone the clinic before leaving home to see if your Doctor is running on time

  • Don’t forget to take your Medicare Card and Health Care Card / Pension Card along with you to your appointment

  • All clinics on the Peninsula are Private Practices and most clinics do not routinely Bulk Bill, consequently full payment of your account will be expected on the day

  • If a locum is available to see you, don’t wait for your regular GP to return.  Locums are Doctors with years of experience who are there to help you.  Remember, your own Doctor needs time off, just like anyone else!!! 

  • Think before you call after hours.  Is it really urgent?

  • For appointments both during and after hours, it is essential to let the receptionist know if your problem is urgent.  For eg: if you have chest pain, a large cut, a child with a high fever, eye injury etc

Please bear in mind that although there are Doctors on call 24 hours a day for emergencies, it is essential that After Hours callouts are restricted to emergencies only. 

In most instances a nurse will triage the need to contact a doctor after hours.  Should a Doctor need to be called in to attend, fees will usually apply.
