The new (yet to be named) layout.
This page will display the gradual construction of my model railway.

8 May 2002. First of all the rain water tank, at right, needed to be moved approx. 3 metres from the back wall of the existing shed. This is to allow for a 2.5 metre extension to be built onto the shed to give the 'Train Room' more space. |
| 8 May 2002. What a mess! Next step is to clean out most of this lot. At present this shed is 6 x 6 metres (20 x 20 ft). After the extension is added onto the far side wall it will be 6 x 8.5 metres. After the extension the interior will be lined out to hopefully minimise the entry of dust. Also insulation will be placed between the inner and outer walls. Yet to determine the best type of ceiling (fixed or suspended). |
| 13 May 2002. The frame work for the extension is now up and the existing back wall cladding has been reattached to the new back wall. No major drama so far. Just waiting to pick up the new iron to clad the end walls and roof. |

29 June 2002. Finally picked up the cladding for the roof and walls and finished sowing this years winter crops so work has recommenced on the 'Train Room'. Roof cladding is now installed. |
|
|
30 June 2002. Northern end wall attached followed soon after by the southern end wall. Connected up all the gutters and downpipes. Need to order some weather flashings for the wall corners and roof and the job will be finished. Then move inside and start work. |

30 June 2002. The inside view of the extension. I now have an area of 6m x 8.5m in total for my new layout. A concrete floor to finish off this end and then the inside walls will be lined. |

30 June 2002. The outside front view. |
| 3 July 2002. Picked up some of the timber for the new layout's bench construction. Some timber from this load will also be used for an N Trak layout for our local Model Train group that will also be started soon. |
|
19 September 2002. Finally a bit more action. The concrete floor is poured in the extension end. |

13 June 2004. Well its been a LONG time since any action on the new train room (too many other hobbies and distractions!). I have also decided to claim an extra 6x3 metre area in the existing shed to allow more scope and recreate more of the original local rail network. Materials have been purchased for the internal walls. |
|
14 June 2004. The sliding door that was on the front of the shed was removed to allow the extra area inside. The original internal wall was then shifted down further and erected again. |

2 October 2004. Well after a massive clean up of all the junk inside the shed this shows the area that I now have to install the new railway. The wall studs and suspended ceiling is only a few days away from being installed. |
|
3 & 4 October 2004. Here we are part way through installing the wall studs and suspended ceiling. |

4 October 2004. Here is all the stud and ceiling work completed. Next step is to finalise the track layout so that 2 internal walls can be built and then get the electician in to install wiring for power points and lights. |
